  • The intragastric balloon is a treatment for temporary weight loss, which aims to provide satiety by eating less food, in combination with a restrictive diet.

  • LapBand is a restrictive procedure that involves placing a silicone implant in the esophagastric union through laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgery), creating a reservoir of limited capacity, which leads to early satiety in the patient, and weight loss.

  • Dr Lopez Corvala's expertise includes general surgery procedures such as different types of hernia repairs, appendectomy, gallbladder removal, etc.

  • Procedure with both a restrictive and malabsorptive component. Considered considered the golden standard of mixed procedures consisting of the creation of a gastric pouch of approximately 20-60cc capacity which communicates the middle portion on the small intestine (jejunum) through a Y-shaped anastomosis (Roux), so gastric capacity and the absorption surface of the intestine is reduced approximately to 30%.

  • Procedure with a restrictive approach, consisting on a gastric resection of about 70% to 80%, leaving a narrow tube of small capacity which generates a sensation of early fullness in the patient. Hormonal factors have been attributed to this procedure, secondary to the gastric resection and to the fast passing of food through the duodenum.

  • Revision in bariatric surgery is defined as an intervention that repairs or revises a prior weight loss surgical procedure. This can be patients that were never successful with the prior procedure, patients with success but who regained the weight, or patients with weight loss success but with complications.
